The Walton Raider boys basketball team defeated the Marietta Blue Devils 45-40 in overtime to win its first region championship since 1989, and only the second in school history. Senior Dylan Pumpian led the Raiders with 17 points while fellow senior Luka Avialani chipped in 12. The Raiders then defeated St. Pius X 65-58 in a tune up game for the state playoffs to bring their record on the season to 20-5 overall and 7-3 in Region 3-7A. During the St. Pius X game, Pumpian again led all scorers with 35 points and Avialani scored his 1,000th career point. The state playoffs start Tuesday, 2/23, with a home contest against the Newnan Cougars at 7:00pm.
