Raiders News · Swim & Dive Finishes Strong in State Meet

The Walton Raider Swim & Dive teams completed another excellent season with strong finishes in the state meet at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The Lady Raiders scored 282 points to finish 3rd behind Brookwood (363) and Lambert (325.5), while the Raiders finished in 15th place.

The Lady Raiders turned in a number of top finishes, including one overall state championship and two other finishes that were 1st in Class 7A. The 200 yard freestyle relay team of Jasmin Hoffman, Abby Belinski, Jami Williams, and Melissa Cox was the overall state champion with a time of 1:35.49 while Mackenna Buchanan finished 3rd overall and 1st in 7A in the 1 meter diving competition with 444.65 points. In the 50 freestyle race, Jasmin Hoffman finished 1st in 7A in 23.61, Melissa Cox was 2nd in 23.69, and Jami Williams 7th in 24.14, while Jasmin Hoffman took 2nd in the 100 freestyle in 51.63 and Melissa Cox 3rd in 51.67. Jami Williams also finished 2nd in the 100 backstroke in 56.70. The 400 freestyle relay team of Melissa Cox, Caroline Current, Abby Belinski, and Jasmin Hoffman took 2nd in 3:32.43, and the 200 medley relay team of Jami Williams, Samantha Kiel, Viviana Lu, and Caroline Current took 10th in 1:49.89. Other top twenty finishes included Abby Belinski in 13th in the 500 freestyle and 15th in the 100 backstroke and Viviana Lu in 15th in the 100 fly and 18th in the 100 backstroke.

The Raiders’ Luke Bartnicki turned in the top individual performance with 6th place finishes in 7A in the 50 freestyle (21.65) and 100 freestyle (47.67). The 400 freestyle relay team of Andrew Cameron, Keegan Ford, Luke Bartnicki, and Nicholas Zhang placed 9th in 3:15.59, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Keegan Ford, Nicholas Zhang, Jace Thompson, and Luke Bartnicki finished 10th in 1:28.1. In addition, Andrew Cameron placed 12th in the 500 freestyle and 17th in the 200 freestyle, Keegan Ford was 14th in the 100 breaststroke, and the 200 medley relay team of Andrew Cameron, Matthew Kiel, Jace Thompson, and Riley Collins finished 17th.
